Prime Minister Raila Odinga welcome President Mwai Kibaki to Kisumu, where the Head of State will officially open the upgraded Kisumu International Airport and launch the construction of the Kisumu by-pass road. The airport was built in 1976 with a 2000 metre long and 30 metre wide runway. The upgraded runway is 3300 metres long and will be able to accommodate large Code D aircrafts such as Boeing 767 or Airbus A300 without load restrictions.

Machakos Tour
The Prime Minister will travel to Machakos for meetings with various leaders from the region. The Machakos meeting will be the beginning of a week-long tour of the country for similar meetings by the Prime Minister.
